What is the BAMCIS Veteran Art Initiative?

BAMCIS is the U.S. Marine Corps planning framework:

  • B – Begin the planning

  • A – Arrange for reconnaissance

  • M – Make reconnaissance

  • C – Complete the plan

  • I – Issue the order

  • S – Supervise

The program creates welcoming, no-pressure creative experiences that connect local veterans and local artists. The initiative coordinates partnerships, secures funding, and manages logistics so that artists can be fairly compensated and veterans can participate in accessible, community-based art experiences.

The goal is simple:
support veterans’ well-being, support working artists, and strengthen community through shared creative practice

Massachusetts is home to a vibrant creative community where nearly 78% of artists are living below a living wage.

  • Pacific Northeast Creations LLC is is applying for funding for BAMCIS Veteran Art Initiative. BAMCIS is a 12-week art program consisting of weekly 1h art classes led by a local artist working with 10 veterans.

Veterans just have to show up!

Grant funding is being secured for art materials, venue rental, artist hourly (living) wage, etc.

  • We want to provide artists with an option for a living wage and veterans with a creative experience and community.

We also want to develop a program that really impacts veterans in a positive way, incorporates their feedback and could even be scalable.

  • There are mountains of evidence of the positive impact the arts can make on mental and physical health!

For this 12-week program, we want to collect information from veterans as well and unobtrusively as possible.

We want to build a short survey to document any positive impact as well as where we can improve.

Survey results will be collected after each session and are voluntary. We hope tracking our results over the 12-week period will give us information to organize and fun our next pilot project.

  • If you’re interested in participating a pilot program like this, or contributing to this pilot program in some way (time, art supplies, funds, name of a great artist), please click on “Contact” at the top of the page and complete the form.

Nationals surveys show more than 30% of veterans report experiencing loneliness, in addition to other physical and psychological challenges related to service.

The World Health Organization’s 2024 report reviewing more than 3,000 studies demonstrates that participation in the arts can positively influence mental health, physical health, and overall well-being.

BAMCIS Veteran Art Initiative brings these realities together.
